Trusted IoT solutions for Ethereum Virtual Machine Compatible Blockchain Software

Zymbit and Oaken Innovations have announced a development partnership to produce trusted and secure solutions for Internet of Things devices using blockchain software compatible with all blockchains that utilize the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Zymbit, a developer of hardware security modules for IoT devices, and Oaken Innovations, a secure blockchain and IoT company, will work together to enhance Zymbit’s cyberphysical security modules to be compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine blockchains.

The Zymbit SM6 hardware security module will be EVM compatible and will plug into single board computers like Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone and Odroid, making wallet functionality available to software applications through Zymbit’s onboard application programming interface. Zymbit’s SM6 will include an SECP256K1 encryption engine for signing and key generation multi-factor device identity, and multiple sensors for physical tamper detection, in an ultra-low-power package.

The new generation six security modules will provide a secure enclave for Ethereum wallets enabling blockchain developers, like Oaken Innovations, to produce secure blockchain software for IoT devices that live in the wild, beyond the security of the firewall. Zymbit’s existing security API will be extended to allow blockchain software developers to generate wallets, store private keys, and sign transactions, all without exposing private key materials or credentials to the application software. Oaken will support development of the Zymbit Security Module Six to ensure broad compatibility with the EVM and to demonstrate specific applications in the connected automotive and consumer IoT spaces.
